Pleasance
Geraldine Pleasance - Contemporary Artist
How did it all begin…

I have recognised that from an early age I always had a visceral response to colour and creative, innovative art pieces.
I was fortunate to be educated in a state system that valued the creative arts and I studied art to A Level.
At 57 years of age I started to re-evaluate my life journey and I made the decision to take my art seriously. To call myself an Artist seemed presumptuous.
I took classes with Simon Birtall (https://drawinguponlife.com ). I realised I had a style of my own, my expression of the world and my view of life was being revealed though the medium of oils on canvas. It was tremendously freeing and healing.
I then completed residential classes. These were essentially to challenge me and to move me out of my comfort zone. It worked… Bullclough Art School, Louise Fletcher and Lunt Studios encouraged my development with amazing tuition and courses.
I am still evolving and I use my experiences to tell a story in my art. So in a sense each piece becomes a part of me, an expression of a single shaft of light penetrating the darkness.
I have been greatly influenced by Van Gogh, Monet, Sisley, Hockney, Matisse, Vlaminck, Derain and Dufy.
Thank you for reading my journey.
